Kids Mitzvah Day
Who says “doing a mitzvah” can’t be fun? Not any one of the 20 kids and teens who recently attended JFS’ 2nd Kids Mitzvah Day.
Volunteer art specialist, Sandi Weinstein, along with teen teaching assistants, helped kids ages 5 through 12 create beautiful challah covers for JFS’ new Shabbat Shalom package delivery program. Kids learned all about tikkun olam, while enjoying a pizza lunch, and creating beautiful works of art. As one young participant told us, “Every kid should do it, it really helps!”

On left, Kids Mitzvah volunteers Isaac and Joshua are shown hard at work on their challah covers. On right, Isaac smiles for the camera; while volunteer art specialist, Sandi Weinstein, helps another young artist with his challah cover.

Happy Birthday Knitzvah
Happy 1st birthday, Knitzvah! In its first year, the talented, loving, and prolific Knitzvah members made more than 100 lap blankets and afghans for isolated seniors, 250 baby gifts for Shalom Baby; more than 100 items for Good Samaritan Hospital NICU and pediatric departments, and many knitted items to families’ and children’s shelters.

They have also given dozens of blankets, hats, scarves and baby items for folks who come into the JFS office needing assistance.
JFS Knitzvah always needs more generous hearts and willing hands to provide warmth and comfort to those in need within our community. All ages and levels of knitters and crocheters are welcome!
