Bring Culture and Connection to Older Adults this Passover

Passover has a way of awakening memory. The familiar displays in the grocery aisle. The recipes pulled from favorite cookbooks in preparation for eight days of tradition at the Seder table.

For older Jewish adults living on fixed incomes, these simple rituals and meaningful connections can be out of reach. The cost of keeping Passover is sometimes a trade-off to paying bills or other living necessities. In many cases, it's about going without. That’s why each year we prepare and deliver holiday food bags to Jewish older adults in our community, filled with traditional Passover items and nourishing staples.

This year, our goal is to provide 350 bags. With current inflation, a bag of basic Passover staples (see chart) averages $56, so the generous donations of this community make a significant impact. Please consider making a contribution to our Passover food bags through the Berkowitz Kosher Food Assistance Program:

In addition, we need help

  • Sorting and packing Passover bags. Reach out to robinf@jfssv.org.

  • Dropping off food bags for our older adults. Contact robinf@jfssv.org  about volunteering as a driver.

With your support, let’s ensure that every table holds food, connection to culture, and dignity for our older adults.
