Volunteering, Demystified: Friendly Visitors & Shabbat Leaders

Many people think volunteering takes more time, experience, or expertise than they have. The reality is often much simpler and more rewarding.
At JFS, our volunteers play an important role in creating connections. Visiting an older adult as a Friendly Visitor or helping to lead Shabbat services at local senior communities creates a sense of belonging and joy. And the impact goes both ways. Volunteers say the experience is deeply fulfilling, shaped by shared stories and new friendships.
Right now, more older adults in our community are hoping for connection, and the need for volunteers continues to grow.
We know many people are curious, but aren’t sure whether it’s the right fit or what it really involves. That’s why we’re hosting 30-minute Q&A sessions where you can hear directly from current volunteers, ask questions, and get a real sense of the experience.
We hope you’ll join us to learn firsthand how meaningful and doable this can be!
